Where did September go? It just can’t be the end of the month already. Traveling the northern part of California, talking to people about the Mule Deer Foundation, and finding there are many new people who will support what MDF stands for has been very rewarding. There is some exciting news – four new chapters are being established, and chapter chairs and their phone numbers will be on the Web site soon. We are seeking committee members in Sacramento, Antiock, Stockton and Lincoln.

The Redwood Chapter in Fortuna Calif., is preparing for their first ever MDF fundraiser. This event will highlight the other deer represented by MDF – the black-tailed deer that inhabit the coastal mountains around Fortuna. If you have never been to the northern coast of California the best way to describe it is “awesome” – the Pacific Ocean at the front door and coastal mountains in back. What a beautiful place to live. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 at the fire station. The committee has an early bird ticket package of 50 with a 4x4 quad as the top raffle item. They are also offering a Kimber rifle raffle. For more information and to order your tickets call Janet or Mark at 707-725-6879.

On Sept. 5 in Livermore, Calif., we had our 2007 TAC meeting for approval of work projects in California. I was impressed with the diversity, and of the 14 projects proposed, 11 were recommended for partial or full funding. Two were forwarded on to National for consideration . One was returned, as the committee felt they needed more information. The day was spent going over each project and having the state agency in charge of the proposal talk about why it is important to the future of mule deer and black-tailed deer in California. My goal is to have more information on each project MDF is working on in California at each event we have this year.

If you have any questions or would like to be part of a local chapter please call me, Don Brown, at 530-990-5193.
