High Desert News
January/February 2008
Mike Laughter, MDF Regional Director
Well, here we are – most of the hunts are over now. I hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the outdoors this hunting season. Whether successful or not, just having the opportunity to spend time in the outdoors with family and friends is definitely good for the soul.
As we finish up with 2007 and begin to plan for the 2008 banquet season I have had the opportunity to visit with some of my MDF chapters, and I couldn’t be happier with the enthusiasm and excitement they have shown. Banquet dates are being set, banquet halls are being booked and tickets are being printed. The volunteer effort is alive and well. Passionate people who truly care about a species we all love have set about the fund-raising effort, and they mean business. This upcoming year promises to be as productive and exciting as last year. Don’t forget that the Mule Deer Foundation plans on kicking off 2008 by celebrating our twentieth year anniversary in Salt Lake City, Utah at our annual National Convention that will run from Feb. 6-9, 2008.
Right on the heels of convention, the Davis County chapter of MDF will kick things off with their second annual banquet and fundraiser to be held Friday Feb. 15 at the Davis Convention Center in Layton, Utah. The very next night, Saturday Feb. 16, the Bear River Chapter in Logan, Utah will hold their second-ever event, and it also promises to be a roaring good time. Both of these chapters put a heavy emphasis on including and promoting our youth at their events. The following week I head south for the Cedar Breaks chapter event to be held in Cedar City, Utah on Saturday Feb. 23. Needless to say, the month of February will set the tone for the rest of the year.
Don’t forget to check the MDF Web site for more details and contact information on upcoming events.
If you are, or think you might be, interested in attending or volunteering at an upcoming MDF event I would love to talk with you about it. Feel free to contact me by e-mail at mlaughter@muledeer.org or by phone at 801-391-0567.
Remember to take a kid hunting so that later on they will take you.
