Local Mule Deer Foundation Makes Donation to Wyoming Game and Fish
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. – The Muley Fanatic Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation is showing their support with efforts to stop poaching in Wyoming thanks to a recent donation to the Wyoming Game & Fish Dept.
Muley Fanatic representatives Joshua Coursey and Joey Faigl presented Green River Wildlife Supervisor Steve DeCecco with one of the 22 stop poaching signs the chapter designed and purchased.
“These signs were constructed by Andersen Sign and purchased for $4,800 with a portion of Muley Fanatic Chapter Rewards from our 2007 banquet,” Coursey said. “Our Chapter members wanted to do something that would highlight the problem of poaching of our wildlife. The signs advertise the new Stop Poaching Hotline number, and we believe the signs will bring more awareness to the hotline, as well as advance our efforts in getting the message out that there is no tolerance for poaching.
“Our intentions are to work with Game and Fish, Wyoming Dept. of Transportation (WYDOT), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and private landowners to have the signs placed in the spring or early summer, in the surrounding 100-mile radius, where they will be highly visible by many people.”
Coursey said this is the first of many projects the Chapter will become involved with.
“Our chapter members will be working with Game and Fish on projects in southwest Wyoming, which will benefit mule deer and other species that inhabit mule deer country.”
Tickets are still available for the Muley Fanatic Chapter Banquet, and Coursey says the signs will be on display at the annual event being held on Sat., March 1, 2008, at the Events Complex in Rock Springs. The doors open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets will not be available at the door as it is nearly sold out. For more information on attending the banquet or getting involved with the local Chapter please call Joshua Coursey at 307-389-7495 or Joey Faigl at 307-350-0314.
