Theodore Roosevelt Elkhorn Ranch Acquisition (2007) In 2007, the MDF had a chance to become part of something truly monumental. Some of the traditional ranch lands have been in public ownership as part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the Badlands of western North Dakota. However, 5,200 acres were owned by private landowners. The Ebert’s family had approached several entities in the interest of selling the property. Chapter SpotlightsThe West Dakota Chapter: Moving Fast Right Out of the Gate! Since I’ve been involved with the Mule Deer Foundation, going on some eight years now, I’ve always paid close attention to where there are locations of chapters across the country. I’ve paid special attention to the Northern Great Plains Region, most likely because that’s where I hang my hat. When the first chapter in North Dakota was starting in Bismarck, there was one chapter starting in Montana, one starting in South Dakota, and few established chapters in Wyoming. This seems natural because of the mule deer populations that exist from border to border in these two states. More ...

Being the first chapter in North Dakota and starting with less than fifteen members in the entire state, the growth in the MDF that the chapter has brought to the state has been tremendous. Presently, there are hundreds of members, and three new chapters have started this year alone. This presence that the MDF has in the state is no doubt a result of years of hard work, dedication and desire by the volunteers of the NBC. More ... |
